Steep terrain. One-day install.
An Rinn GAA, located in the remote Gaeltacht area of County Waterford, required a high-performance lighting system capable of supporting both football and hurling. The club’s grounds presented a significant engineering challenge due to steep and uneven terrain, which made traditional installation methods slow, complex, and potentially disruptive to the surrounding environment.
The objective was to deliver a modern, energy-efficient LED lighting system that met sporting performance requirements while being installed quickly, safely, and with minimal environmental impact. With limited access and a strict delivery timeframe, Indigo Sports Solutions was tasked with engineering a bespoke system that could be installed and commissioned within a single day.
One-day turnkey delivery
Indigo Sports Solutions developed a fully customised lighting solution using pre-engineered components and extensive off-site preparation. In partnership with PST Sport, six Valor poles were designed specifically for the site, each with custom foundation cages and bespoke mounting brackets to ensure secure and accurate installation on the challenging terrain.
All lighting units were preloaded and aligned off-site to minimise on-site work. The completed system incorporated twenty-four total luminaires consisting of ten Icon 1000 W units and fourteen Icon 600 W units. By assembling the entire structural and lighting package in advance, the installation team was able to position, secure, align, test, and commission the full system within a single day while maintaining a minimal environmental footprint.

The completed installation provided outstanding performance across the playing surface. The system achieved an average of 368 lux with a uniformity of 0.81, providing excellent visibility for both football and hurling. This significant enhancement improves player safety, supports high-quality training conditions, and elevates the overall standard of the facility.
The new LED system also provides long-term operational benefits, including reduced maintenance requirements and lower running costs due to its efficiency and durability. This project demonstrates how precise engineering and thorough off-site preparation can successfully address complex site conditions while delivering a high-performance sports lighting solution within a remarkably short timeframe.
